Environment, Health & Safety (“EHS”)
Besides complying with EHS-related law, a-iTrust focuses on
reducing the impact of its business operations on the natural
environment. The Trust also actively promotes the importance
of health and safety at its parks through the annual green
festival, ‘Ascendas Green Month’ in Bangalore, Chennai and
Hyderabad in June and July 2011. A series of weekly theme-
based activities such as ‘Tree plantation week’, ‘Eco-drive
week’, ‘Eco-bazaar week’, and ‘Green ideas week’ were
organised to increase environmental awareness. The month-
long green celebrations ended on a high with an energised
music concert by popular bands in Bangalore and Chennai.
Over at Hyderabad, a ‘Green Walk’ was organised with over
500 park occupants taking part in the event.
Community & Charity
a-iTrust believes inproactively leveraging its corecompetencies
to improve the quality of life in the societies that it operates in.
To reach out and help the needy and less fortunate, a-iTrust
organised the following community and charity activities and
programmes.
In May 2011, ITPB donated two ambulances to serve the
emergency medical needs of local residents. One ambulance
donated to Bowring Hospital is designated to serve the city,
while the other will cater to the Whitefeld community, which
ITPB is a part of.
Ascendas Hyderabad organised a donation drive at The
V and CyberPearl in June 2011. Old clothes and reusable
scraps collected were handed over to Hyderabad council
for human welfare (“HCHW”). HCHW is a non-governmental
organisation that rescues and rehabilitates children living on
streets, slogging as laborers, begging on the streets, scraping
a living as rag pickers, or suffering as victims of traffcking or
HIV/AIDS.
Ascendas Hyderabad invited 25 underprivileged children from
Sankalp foundation to celebrate Children’s Day with Ascendas
staff in November 2011. The children enjoyed participating in
numerous activities such as dance and painting competitions,
and were also treated to a sumptuous meal. The children took
home many exciting gifts and fun-flled moments to cherish.
10 talented children in the age group between 10 to 17
years old were given the honours this year at the Ascendas
Excellence Award 2011, held in December 2011. Organised
in association with Tamil Nadu Differently Abled Federation
Charitable Trust, the annual Ascendas Excellence Award in
its 5th year, recognised the outstanding achievements of the
differently abled achievers of Tamil Nadu in the felds of music,
art, academic and sports. The awards comprising a trophy, a
certifcate of commendation and cash prize, were presented to
the recipients by His Excellency, Dr. K. Rosiah, the Governor
of Tamil Nadu. Initiated in 2007 as a community initiative, the
Ascendas Excellence Award has over the years recognised
the inherent talent of 65 special individuals with the number
reaching 75 this year.
ITPB organised voluntary blood donation camps in April
2011 and January 2012 in association with Sankalp India
Foundation. Various blood banks and rotary clubs brought
in their team of doctors and trained nurses to facilitate the
donation drive.
In Singapore, the Trustee-Manager visited the AWWA
Community Home for Senior Citizens to entertain and prepare
meals for its residents.
